Wedding Favour Customs

Canadians have adopted the tradition of giving wedding favours as keepsake gifts to their wedding reception guests. Wedding favour giving dates back to European high society, whereby five sugar covered almonds were, called "bomboniere" (bonbonniere, boubouniere), were shared with guests in appreciation. The bomboniere represented happiness, health, wealth, fertility and longevity. Today, wedding favour giving customs vary widely.
